The upcoming 2020 election presents a set of demographics that is completely different from the elections of the past. This election, according to data, will be the most diverse of any before with many different minorities, ages, levels of education and income projected to be represented.

Fast Facts

1/3 of eligible voters are nonwhite — This is driven by a long term increase, specifically Hispanic

1 in 10 of eligible voters will be members of Generation Z

Nearly ¼ of the electorate will be 65 and older

Baby boomers will account for 4/10 eligible voters

“In 2020, Gen Z eligible voters are expected to be 55% white and 45% nonwhite, including 21% Hispanic, 14% black, and 4% Asian or Pacific Islander. By comparison, the Boomer and older electorate is projected to be about three-quarters white (74%).” -Pew Research Center

Looking to the past to predict the future

By looking at voter turnout and registration over the past 20-40 years, we can predict the demographics of 2020. This election will most likely be the most diverse and have the largest voter turnout in a long time.
