ID requirements

Two-thirds of states require identification at the polls. Check your state's laws around voter identification and bring the appropriate documents to the polls.

Photo IDs include:

  • Driver’s licenses

  • State-issued ID cards

  • Military ID cards

  • Passports

  • Many states also offer free voter ID cards that include a photo if a person does not have any other form of ID.

 

Non-Photo IDs include:

  • Birth certificates

  • Social security cards

  • Bank statements

  • Utility bills

  • Some states require a signature at the polling station that is then cross-checked with a signature on file.

 

To ensure your ballot does not get cast a provisional ballot always update your voter registration office whenever there is a name or address change.
